Members in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday expressed concern over the governments move to ban the sale of non-iodised salt from August 15 this year saying the move would hit hard lakhs of workers and manufacturers of salt in unorganised sector. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Radhika Selvi (DMK) said the decision would affect the sail manufacturing units in the small scale sector in eight states including Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. Parliamentary affairs minister Ghiilam Nabi Azad assured the members that he would bring the matter to the attention of the health minister.
