Engineering major Larsen & Toubro, along with its group partners, has bagged two major EPC contracts valued at Rs 1,550 crore for Tata Steels 2.4m tone expansion project in Jamshedpur. L&T, in partnership with Paul Wurth-Italia, will build Indias biggest blast furnace with a capacity of 2.5m tonne of steel per year over a 32 months. The aggregate value of the order is Rs 1,190 crore, out of which L&Ts share will be to the time of Rs 713.9 crore. L&T also in consortium with Outokurnpu technologies, Germany (formerly Lurgi Metallurgie), has bagged a contract, worth Rs 360 crore for construction of a 2.3m tonne per annum capacity sinter plant to be built in 24 months. L&Ts share in the project is worth Rs 288 crore. Paul Wurth Italia is a leader in blast furnace technology in Europe, while Outokumpu Technologies a pioneer in development of iron ore agglomeration technology.
