Air-Deccan airlines have introduced a new category of fares, branded Happy hour fares, to accelerate last-minute ticket sales. Air- line seats will be sold between 9am and 12 pm every night for Air-Deccan flights leaving the next day. The seats will be priced at 50% of the fare on the last day. For example on the Mumbai-Bangalore route, Air-Deccan currently sells last day tickets at Rs 2,200 per seat. If booked the night before departure, the fare will cost Rs 1,100. The airline hopes to sell about 300 such seats everyday on the Airbus aircraft. It also plans to start selling similar night before seats on its ATR aircraft.
The airline hopes to attract passengers who have been booked on other domestic airlines and would like to switch to the much cheaper Air-Deccan flights. Passengers booked on Jet Airways or Indian Airlines could cancel their tickets and re-book on these cheaper fares.Air Deccan does not overbook. Cancellations are not encouraged in the low cost airline model. In fact they are discouraged through a no-refund policy. Air-Deccan and the Delhi- based Spice Jet have however refunded full fares to passengers booked on flights from Mumbai during the flood. It plans to start operations to Tuticorin, Nagpur, Kochi and Jamshedpur.
