Car sales grew by 14.8 per cent in August and at the same time utility vehicles grew by 15 per cent compared to last year.Total domestic passenger car sales in August 2005 stood at 72,165 units against 62,845 units last year whereas cumulative sales of cars in the April-August period this year increased by 5.32 per cent at 332,159 unitsas against 315,370 units last year.Hyundai Motors India, recorded 50 per cent jump in sales, while market leaders Maruti Udyog showed 12.39 per cent growth.However, Tata Motors, fell marginally by 3.38 per cent at 11,218 units in August as against 11,611 units compared to August 2004.While the light commercial vehicles segment grew by 32.44 per cent, the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment also saw a growth of over 9 per cent in August 2005 as compared to last year. The three-wheeler segment grew by almost 29 per cent, while the two-wheeler segment as a wholegrew by over 18 per cent.
