BSNL plans Rs 3,200 crore investment in FWT.
BSNL decided to invest Rs 3,200 crore in the CDMA- BASED FIXED WIRELESS TELEPHONY (FWT) market with the aim of notching up a subscriber base of four million by 2007. By increasing the subscriber base, BSNL also plans to increase Indias rural tele-density from two telephones to five telephones per 100 persons. BSNL sees several advantages in FWT over other technologies. BSNL sources said that FWT provides a consistent and high quality connection. Also, FWT system uses a part of the microwave spectrum that is a much smaller wavelength. FWT connections can be rolled out quickly, as compared to landline phones, where telephone cables have to be laid. About 70 per cent of rural India has some form of electrification
