ESAB India broke equipment plant in SIPCOT Irungattukottai, near chennai. In a years time the Rs 20 crore plant is expected to be ready for production in a years time. Chairman of the company Michael. G. Foster, said that the new unit would complement the equipment manufacturing activities located at Kolkatta. In Ambattur ESAB India also has a plant where it produces welding rods. ESAN India , whereby 37% is owned by ESAB Group entered by the attainment of the welding division Pieco Electronics and Electricals Ltd .Around the world ESAB India is present in 80 countries. When it was asked to Mr Foster whether the plant would be used for global supplies than he said that the plant was for the Indian Market. ESAB has used 40 crores in acquisitions of welding business of Pieco in 1987, Indian Oxygen in 1991, Flotech Weldings and Cutting Systems in 1992 and Maharashtra Weldingaids Ltd in1994 out of 60 crores which ESAB has invested in India.
