Telecom access providers included 9.7 lakh subscribers in September. Tata Indicom added 4.7 Lakh subscribers ,while Reliance Infocomm added 4.01 lakh subscribers ,according to figures released by the Association of United Telecom Service Providers of India. Total subscriber base of Tata Indicom stood at 5.6m ,against 13.5m for Reliance Infocomm. MTNL added 31,331 subscibers to 4.04m,HFCL Infotel and Shyam added 2,856 and 525 customers respectively. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India stated " The average additions in the first half of this fiscal reached 2.46m per month against 1.83m during the same period last year." In the mobile segment ,2.48m subscribers were added in September against 2.74m in August. Total mobile subscriber addition in the first half of 05-06 was 14.74m, taking the total to 65.05m .In the fixed phone segment, 0.39m users were added in September compared to 0.27m in August. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said telecom companies added 2.9m subscribers in September, taking the total subscriber additions in the first half to 15.14m.
