King Fisher Airlines has signed up with Air Deccan to buy out the Banglore-based low-cost airlines extra ASKMs(available seat Kilometers) on category 2,2A and 3 routes. The DGCA guidelines require airlines flying on the primary routes to fly a certain percentage of their total flights on other, less popular routes. Air-Deccan CEO Gopinath Said "The agreement for ASKMs is likely to be extended later for a longer period. It is not clear how much King Fisher is paying Air-Deccan for the additional ASKMs, but the figure is thought to be in the region of Rs 2 per kilometer. KingFisher already has a similar agreement with Indian Airlines to buy its surplus ASKMs across the three categories. The airlines are also required to fly 50% of their category 1 routes on category 3. Airlines have to file a monthly statement with the DGCA detailing their ASKMs and the routes on which they were operated. King Fisher is growing capacity rapidly, and now needs more ASKMs than the national carrier can provide. Indian Airlines own operations to north-east have been restricted because of the airlines operational problems with its Boeing 737 fleet. It flies instead on routes like Delhi-Ahemdabad -Mumbai and others. Air -Deccan has surplus ASKM(available seats multiplied by the distance flown) on the category 2 and 3 routes. It operates Airbus A 320 flights on the category one routes.
