Sony and Samsung are in talks to prolong their LCD partnership to the development of the panels themselves. The 2 companies had formed a $2-billion joint venture in 2004 to mass-produce LCD panels. The venture, called S-LCD,began shipment of panels This April. Sony currently obtains panels from S-LCD,which are basically developed by Samsung .Sony then adds its own semiconductors,backlights and other components to assemble LCD TVs.
