Scientists at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, are exploring smart light sources that provide more lighting. They are attempting to make light emitting diodes (LEDs) blink so fast that a person doesnt notice but a receiving device can. This opens the door to using lights for electronic communication. Room lights could link your computer to the Internet ,avoiding WiFi signals that can be pirated. They may transmit messages to devices worn by only certain people, like particular doctor or nurses in a hospital that spew announcements for everybody to hear. Lighting in offices and schools could be improved for health and productivity by acting on internal body clocks. The 24-hour internal body clock is best known for governing cycles of alertness and sleep.
