The Ministry of Health is strategising to eliminate polio virus from the country by using tailor made vaccine against the virus. Sources in the ministry state that the vaccine Monovalent Oral Polio Vaccine was found successful against type 1 virus. Majorities of the Polio cases reported last year were caused due to the same virus. Type 2 and Type 3 virus,which earlier contributed to polio cases have virtually been eliminated from the country. This change in strategy would help the target to reach zero polio cases by end of this year. The vaccine is specifically designed against the virus and would be administered only on April 10 and May 15 in affected areas. After two rounds, the ministry would revert to the Trivalent Oral Polio Vaccine, combination of Type 1,Type2, and Type3 , which was administered across the country uptill now. |
