TATA AUTO Plastics Systems (TAPS), the division of Tata Auto Comp Systems, is setting up an assembly and moulding facility of car interiors at Biddai near Banglore for Tata Kirloslar Motors(TKM). The facility, housing 11 injection -moulded plastic components and assemblies, instrument panel, dashboard, air vents, door pulls, exteriors such as bunpers and grilles. The association with Toyota has been a long-standing one. From carrying out small orders worth Rs 100 per car for Toyotas Corolla,the business grew to as much as Rs 1,500 per car for Innova. Mandeep Bhalla, chief executive officer ,TAPS confirming the development said, "As the business grows, the company plans to set up similar units around customers manufacturing facility for speedy job diliveries." The Rs 100-crore TAPS has set a target to turn the company a Rs 1,000 crore entity by 2009 and the strategy employed is to move from a moulding and assembly entity to developing integrated module systems. The cockpit assembly module offering covers the entire spectrum of car interiors. The company has a manufacturing plant of 36,400-square-metre area in Pune,which includes a100% export-oriented unit(EOU). The Pune facility has an installed capacity of manning 700 car sets.TAPS has a technical collaboration with Faurecia. With headquarters in France, Faurecia is the second-major automative supplier in Europe and the ninth major in the world. |
