Reliance Energy tied up with GE to develop wind power
Reliance Energy Ltd, has merged with General Electric of the US to develop wind power projects in the country. The project is expected to cost Rs 2,500 crore,75% of which will be the cost of the equipment to be supplied by GE. REL plans to develop a 500 MW wind power projects, which, apart from being the largest such project, in the region will also account for 15% of the total installed wind power capacity in India. Total installed capacity of wind power projects in the country is around 3,595 MW. Sources say that the MoU between REL and GE states that they will work jointly to develop wind power at the most competitive cost of energy. REL will lead the project development activities and be responsible for land, infrastructure, and obtaining approvals,GE will supply all relevant equipment for the project. They have mutually decided on a target schedule of 2007, informed REL officials.
