Finnish equipment major ,Nokia,and Bharti-Tele-Ventures have signed a $125-million outsourcing deal to expand rural cellular networks,in eight circles. Nokia will provide managed services and expand Bhartis Airtel networks in the rural areas of Mumbai ,Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Orissa, Kolkata, West Bengal, and Madhyapradesh ,over a three-year period.Nokia will now also manage Kolkata, West Bengal and Madhyapradesh, which were until now being managed by Siemens. This managed capacity expansion is likely to be completed by March 2006, and will help Airtel cover more than 5,000 towns across India. Nokia will continuously deliver radio and core network equipment & services based on Bhartis capacity requirements, and will also deploy its low cost Connect GSM Solution in a cost-effective manner. Nokia with its cutting edge technology and optimised network solutions for rural areas, would help the company deliver economically viable services to the low revenue consumers. |
