Ranbaxy is claiming a badly needed win in its Norwegian court battle against American drug giant Pfizer to make and sell the worlds best-selling drug, the cholestrol lowering atorvastatin. But, the company admits that it is still unable to put its cheaper version on the market. The Norwegian court ruling, Ranbaxy said, "sided with it on the prrocess patent. But a spokesman said o Thursday the Oslo ruling also found Ranbaxys "atorvastatin product to infringe a Pfizer Norwegian patent covering a particular intermediate compound." Ranbaxy said that Oslos partial win was cheering in its "overall strategy"of challenging Pfizer for the right to put a generic version of Lipitor on the market. It said that it now foresaw "eventually putting a generic version of Lipitor on the (Norwegian) market- possibly by early 2007". Ranbaxys expensive strategy has so far seen it tirelessly waging a long, complex challenge to Pfizer over Lipitor in two European countries and USA. The company, which admits Norway is not a major market, said it considered every legal nod on the long road to wresting control of Lipitor from Pfizer to be important.
