Total SA,Europes biggest oil refiner, said third-quarter profit jumped 32% because of record oil and gas prices following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the US. Net profit rose to 2.65 billion euros ($4.36 billion) from 2.67 billion Euros in the year-earlier period, the company said. Earnings per share gained 36% to 6.20 euros. Profit, excluding the value of the companys stake in drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis SA and one-time items, missed estimates, partly because of a 48% slide earnings from its chemicals unit.
