The National Textile Corporation (NTC) will place orders to purchase machinery for modernising its mills slated for revivals in mid-January. NTC CMD K Ramachandran Pillai told that "We will be purchasing machinery worth Rs 300 crore. The orders will be placed by Jan 15th."NTC will buy Chinese textile machinery on an "experimental basis"since the delivery period quoted by domestic textile machinery manufacturers is very long.In all,15 lakh new spindles would be installed.Emphasising that there will be no "rigidity" in the purchase decision,Mr Pillai said most of the machinery in the mills would be replaced.A techno-economic feasibility study has been conducted in each of the mills and based on this the "best combination" of machinery would be installed,he said.
