The Indian granite and stone industrys latest love affair is with Middle Kingdom -China.China is going to make its presence felt at Stona-06 ,the international biennial exhibition organised by All India Granites and Stone Association.Mr Basha president,All India Granites and Stone Association (AIGSA), said "Yes,the Chinese delegation has asked for as many as 55 stalls. This is one of the strongest responses that we have got."Industry sources said say that Chinas initial brush with the domestic granite and stone industry was not as a buyer but as a seller.
Thanks to the fact that Chinese equipment are cheaper by 35% to 40%,an increasingly large number of Indian granite processing units are buying more Chinese spares.Mr Basha says, the industry is also looking at increasing exports to China. The attrction-to tap the Chinese buying binge as the Middle Kingdom prepares to host the ultimate sporting spectable, the Olympic games in Beijing.Industry sources say there have been quite a few instances of the Chinese buying large blocks and slabs, polishing them and re-exporting them to the global markets.Sources said "China no doubt has its own reserves of granite though the quality of Indian granite is far superior. And this factor is motivating us to export blocks and slabs to China."
