Cabinets approve Eastern Coalfields expansion plan
The Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today cleared the Rs 700-crore expansion plans of Rajmahal opencast project of the Eastern coalfields.Post expansion,the project will produce additional 6.5m tonnes per year of grade F coal.The existing capacity of the project is 10.5m tonnes per year.The expansion would require initial investment of Rs 650.1 crore up to 08-09.The CCEA has also approved aoutsourcing of over-burden removal and coal extraction option for the existing 10.5m tonnes per year as well as proposed expansion with an investment of Rs 50.1 crore.The CCEA has also cleared proposal to establish a Central Institute of Horticulture at Nagaland at a cost of Rs 20 crore.The union cabinet which had also met today approved signing an agreement for the Global Crop Diversity Trust under article 18 0f the International Treaty on Plan Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.India will make a contribution of $50,000 to thetrust.Other decisions taken by the cabinet today include an ex-post facto approval for an agreement signed with Venezuela for cooperation in the area in hydrocarbons.The Cabinet has also given its approval for authorising non-substantive changes proposed by either signatories.Approval was also given for an agreement with Saudi Arabia for bilateral investment promotion and protection and MoU with Phillipinnes for cooperation in the field of agriculture and related areas.
