A Team led by Dr Feng He from St Georges University of London has evolved a simpler and a more delectable way of preventing strokes,that kill tens of thousands every year.Apart from causing death,strokes also leave many paralysed or unable to speak.In Britain alone 150,000 suffer a stroke every year and around 67,000 die as a result of the attack.A quarter of a million live with severe disabilities.The doctors pooled data comparing fruit and vegetable consumption and stroke incidence to conclude that cases of severe disability would be prevented if people simply ate more fruit and vegetable.They said fruit and vegetables were rich source of potassium,folate, fibre and antioxidants.Both dietary fibre and potassium could contribute to the reduction in stroke by lowering BP and cholestrol.It would also reduce other cardiovascular diseases and cancer.These findings were arrived at form an analysis of eight studies involving more than 257,000 participants in Europe, Japan and the US.Eating more than five portions day can reduce risk of strokes by 26% compared to an intake of less than three servings,according to the findings.
