With the Indian economy racing ahead, the German machine tool industry which exported Euro 77.7 4 million worth of goods to India in 2004, is eyeing the countrys fast emerging automobile and manufacturing sector.India imports about 65 percent of new or second hand machine tools form Germany and Japan the two largest tool-producing countries in the world.
According to Carl Martin Welcker ,chairman of the German Machine Tool Builders Association (VDW),the German machine tool industry is the ideal partner for the Indian automobile, automobile supplier and mechanical engineering industries, which together constitute Germanys most important customers in India.He was speaking at a symposium organised by a 270-member VDW in cooperation with the Indo-German chamber of Commerce. The German firms made presentations showcasing the enornomous variety in the machine tool industry in Germany. Tools and solutions for rolling,turning, milling, boring, honing,gearing,gear cutting, and laser welding were exhibited.
