Pesticides are not always harmful and if used in a judicious manner can double crop production,says chairman of the Crop Care Federation of India (CCFI),R.G.Agarwal.Agarwal said the environmentalist lobby portrayed an exagerrated picture of the harmful effects of pesticides, which was not always true.Insect-borne diseases are actually controlled by pesticides, he said.Promotion of the use of pesticides in a judicious manner with integrated crop management could double agriculture production in the country, he claimed.He said the centre must take steps to improve the use of pesticides like removal of 16% excise,educating farmers and promotion of private-public partnership in agriculture extension work. |
