Indians may be the worlds largest consumers of gold but they are definetely not the smartest buyers,as they allow themselves to be cheated to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore by unscruplous buyers ,as they allow themselves to be cheated to the tune of Rs 6,000 crore by unscruplous jewellers every year.The Bureau of Indian Standards, the autonomous body responsible for hallmaring gold, has found that jewellers succeed in selling highly impure gold to unsuspecting buyers. "We have observed that that gold consumers are being taken for a ride by unscruplous jewellers ,who on an average sell (ornaments with)15% shortage in gold purity, which comes to around Rs 6,000 crore per annum, "BIS additional director general YP Singh told in Ludhiana recently. |
