Consumer goods giant posted a 37% jump in 2005 earnings and put most of its slow-growing west European frozen foods businesses including Birds Eye and Iglo up for sale to speed overall recovery.Anglo-Dutch Unilever, the maker of Sunsilk shampoo,Dove soap and Knorr soups, said on Thursday it expected a continued recovery into 2006 and higher operating profit margins. Annual profit rose to 3.9 bn euros($4.7bn).The rise was 22% after stripping out a one-off profit from the sales of UCI Calvin Klein prestige perfumes.

The worlds number three food group and one of the globes biggest soap and deodrant makers ha been cutting prices and boosting marketing to drive a sales-led recovery from a shock profit warning in 2004.Chief executive Patrick Cescau said the recovery would continue this year ,with improved productivity and a move to a higher price products, offsetting higher input costs. "We are entering 2006 in better shape. We are on an improving trend and are seeing growth, especially in the fourth quarter," Cescau said.
