After Navapur, other regions of Maharashtra have reported bird deaths. But Union Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar told reporters in Delhi that the incident has been blown out of proportions as the disease is confined to a 10-km radius in Maharashtra. He said the culling operations would end on Tuesday evening and there was no need to panic. In Karnataka, about 16,000 dead chickens were found and 15 samples were sent from Aurangabad to Bhopals Animal Disease Lab for testing. In Hingoli also in Maharashtra, 1,000 chicken were found dead. The Indian Railways joined some airline companies by deciding not to serve chickens on trains. Armed forces have also taken preventive measures by deciding not to lift stocks of chicken and eggs, and issuing detailed guidelines on handling of poultry. Chicken sales continued to plummer in the country in AP,sales were reported to have started rising after falling sharply on the first two days. |
