The made-in-India tagline has just received a big boost: German Mulliez Group company Orsay, an international fashion brand for women, has inked an outsourcing deal with Bangalore-base Munch Design Workshop for its designing requirements. This is the first time Orsay has outsourced apparel designing to a non-European company.
The collaboration is a tripartite agreement betweem Orsay, Munch Design Workshop and sourcing agent Francis Wacziarg Agencies (FW). Based on a design brief from Orsay, Munch would propose ideas and design lines which will be converted into a commercial product line by FW.
According to Munch CEO & principal designer Karunesh Vohra, "If a European
Fashion brand has decided to sign up an Indian company to design for its European customers, it goes to prove that Indian Design IP is of global standards and this is being accepted by the world community." Orsay director Jean-Pierre Pharaon said European and Amrican companies have realised the feasibility of design outsourcing to India for its cost-effective and qualitative solutions.
