A fresh lease of life has been granted to the Duty Entitlement Pass Book Scheme (DPEB), the most popular export promotion tool. The government has resolved to continue with it till March 07, as no substitute export window has been set up till now. A proposal to extend the scheme for a year was sanctioned by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. The notional revenue foregone under the DEPB scheme was Rs 11000 crores in 03-04, but it came down to Rs. 8000 crores in 04-05. Currently, the DPEB covers more than 30% of all exports in India. The exporters are pleased with this development, as it will assist them in negotiating long term contracts. The government has been working on alternative, but any substantial development has not taken place in this regard. The Federation of Indian Export Organization is welcoming the extension. |
