Toyota Kirloskar Motor plans to set up a rural drinking water project for the residents of Ramanagaram Town in collaboration with the Karnataka Government. The project will involve the construction of two water tanks of a total capacity of 1.5 million litres, which is expected to help reduce the acute water shortage faced by the residents during the summer season.
Ramanagaram town, which is about 20 kms from the Toyota factory, has a population of 80,000 people. About half the population gets water supply from Cauvery river while the rest depend on borewells and the Arkavathy river. In the summer season, the water levels in borewells and the Arkavathy river dips drastically leaving nearly half the town parched.
