The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Manmohan Singh has urged the Chinese authority to remove the market barriers to goods from India on Wednesday with a concern over the growing bilateral trade imbalance between India and China. The PM also wanted the Indian business to diversify its export basket to that country. Mr. Manmohan Singh expressed his views while addressing at the India-China Economic, Trade and Investment Summit in China.
Speaking to the delegates present there in the summit, Mr. Singh said, "The challenge before us is to diversify our export basket to China". He added, "I would urge Indian business to vigorously pursue opportunities for expanding non-traditional items of export. Such efforts, when matched by greater market access for Indian goods in China, will help to bridge the rising trade deficit between us". Mr. Singh also stated that both India and China have enormous opportunities in order to expand trade in the fields like services, particularly in construction and engineering, education, entertainment, financial services, IT and IT-enabled services, transport, tourism and also in health.
The Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu also agreed to the opinions of the Indian PM and said that both China and India have promised each other to strengthen their trade ties in these areas. While elaborating his thoughts about the issue, Mr. Manmohan Singh said, "We will work together with the Chinese government to remove administrative barriers and simplify regulatory regimes in order to move forward in these areas". He further assured that both the governments are going to work together with a view to put in place an "enabling environment" for a greater trade, investment and economic interaction.
