One of the leading IT service providers in India, the IBM has recently bagged a huge $150 million order from the giant telecommunication company, Bharti Airtel. The officials from Bharti Airtel has informed that the company has provided the IBM with the contract in order to get IT solutions and services for supporting the broadcasting services like DTH and IPTV. They also informed that the company is planning to boost its triple play platform at the moment.
According to a top official of the company, the Bharti Airtel has already outsourced its IT requirement for the telecom business in the past and it has given the new contract to IBM with an aim to provide a one-stop experience spanning mobile, PC and television. The official added that under the contract, IBM will be bringing in its global expertise in certain areas that include the telemedia business, distribution, enterprise segments and business resilience.
The Director-IT & Innovation of Bharti Airtel, Dr Jai Menon was talking about the new agreement and said, "We intend to continue to build upon the success of the principle of utility computing, on which we had structured our partnership with IBM". The other half of the deal, IBMs top officials have also expressed their comments on the issue and according to the Vice-President, Communications Sector, Asia-Pacific of IBM, Mr. Ramesh Awtaney, "We are geared to support the growth and expansion of Bharti Airtel and will continue to bring in global best practices and innovative solutions". Mr. Awtaney also said that IBM would provide and implement IT systems and these systems would make Bharti Airtel able to launch differentiated services in the new thrust areas. The sources from the industry have stated that by entering the telemedia business of DTH and IPTV, Bharti Airtel would now provide the entire spectrum of services to its customers.
