The two leading pharmaceuticals companies of India, Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd and Novartis Pharma AG have recently entered into a deal in order to settle a legal battle between them. The companies have been battling each other for a generic version of Rivastigmine tartrate capsules that is sold under the trade-name Exelon.
While announcing about the new deal between the two companies, Dr Reddys has stated in a statement, "Under the terms of the agreement, Dr Reddys will not launch its generic Rivastigmine tartrate capsules until sometime before the expiry of the Orange Book patents claiming Rivastigmine". The sources informed that the patent for the Rivastigmine would be expiring in the month of August, 2012. The sources further informed that the new agreement has also provided a discharge of the lawsuits in the US that are related to the Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDA) filed by Dr Reddys for the generic version of Rivastigmine tartrate.
