The Suven Life Sciences has been granted a product patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and the officials of the company have stated that the class of selective serotonin receptor affinity compounds is included into the granted claims of the patent. The compounds have been discovered by Suven and they are currently being developed as the therapeutic agents.
A top official from the Suven Life Sciences has informed that the invention patent disclosure states that the compounds can be used in the treatment of neuro-degenarative disorders. The disorders include Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, schizophrenia and Huntingtons disease. The official also said that this is the second product patent for Suven that is granted in the US. The CEO of Suven, Mr. Venkat Jasti was expressing his joy after getting the product patent and said, "We are very pleased by the issuance of this patent to Suven by the US Patent office for our drug candidates that are being developed for central nervous system (CNS) disorders which targets a $18 billion potential market opportunity".
While talking about the other products of the company and also about the ongoing projects of Suven Life Sciences, an official said that the company has also filed another 29 product patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The patent applications cover more than 145 countries and among those applications, 5 product patents have already been granted in various countries. The official also said that a number of other patent applications from Suven Discovery Research are in the pipeline. These applications have already completed the administrative and technical diligence from the patent offices from major countries and the company is expecting the applications to be granted shortly.
