Delhi Metro Link Project Went to Consortium Of Reliance Energy and CAF
The project for operating and managing a 22.7 km metro rail link between New Delhi city center and international airport went to a consortium that comprises the Reliance Energy and the Spanish rolling stock company CAF. The sources related to the contract giving have informed that the project has been handed over for a period of 30 years and the estimated cost of the total project would be about Rs 3800 crore. The cost has been estimated including the civil work and rolling stock expenses.

A source from the consortium has stated that the consortium would spend an amount of Rs. 51 crore in the first year of the project and in the following years, it would pay an additional five per cent per annum. The amount would be paid on a compounded basis for the remaining period of the contract. According to a spokesperson from the consortium, it would share 1-5 per cent of the gross revenue earned from the project for the first 15 years of operations as well. The consortium would be sharing another 5 per cent revenues from the project for the rest of the 15 years. The spokesperson further said that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) would be sharing about a half of the total cost in the project.

A top official from the Indian government said that the government is expecting the project to be completed before the 2010 Commonwealth Games commences in New Delhi. The official also said that the DMRC did invite expressions of interest from consortia to design, commission and operate the airport-city center rail link for a 30-year period. According to a source from the DMRC, the consortium would have to install all the systems that include the rolling stock, overhead electrification, track, signaling and telecommunication, ventilation and air-conditioning, automatic fare collection, baggage check-in and handling, depot and other facilities in the project. The source added that the DMRC would be doing the civil work required for the project.
