The state government of Punjab has recently invited proposals from both the Indian and the international companies for setting up some photo-voltaic power projects in the state. The officials from the Punjab government have stated that the reason behind initiating the steps is to develop clean energy in the state. The officials from the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) also informed that these proposed photo-voltaic power projects would be developed on the built operate and own basis (BOO).
Informing that any company, be it Indian or from other nation is eligible to apply for the projects, the PEDA also stated in a public notice, "The state is endowed with vast potential of solar energy estimated at 4-7 KWH/ sq meter of solar insulations levels and the government is keen to tap this resource for increasing the renewable energy share in the state by setting up solar photo-voltaic power projects". The notice also informed that the state government is planning to offer 100 MW in the first phase to the bidders in the lot of 5 MW each and the government would allocate only one project a company.
According to the public notice released by the PEDA regarding the issue, the state would also provide tariff and incentives to the companies for setting up of solar energy projects in the state on BOO basis. The statement said that the private sector companies would be able to submit their bids for building the photo-voltaic power projects till 4th March, this year. The eligibility of the companies for the bid would be determined by the net and turnover of the companies and the government would accept the proposals only from those companies that have net worth of Rs one crore and a turnover of Rs three crore.
