BSNL Reduced Tariffs of Leased Line Net Port
The leading telecommunication service provider of the country, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has recently decided to cut down the tariffs for leased line Internet ports by up to 33 per cent. According to the officials from BSNL, the domestic bandwidth would become much cheaper with this tariff cut. The sources are informing that the corporates, Internet service providers and IT-enabled service companies are the primary users of the leased line Internet ports and they mainly use these ports in order to link their various offices or clients.

While talking about the reduced tariff rates in more details, one of the top executives of BSNL has stated that according to the revised plans, the customers would get a 45 Mbps leased line to a non-ISP entity for Rs 1.8 crore per annum from the 1st February. This rate is Rs 2.7 crore at the moment. He added that a one Mbps line will cost only Rs 4.25 lakh under the new scheme in comparison to the current Rs 7.1 lakh. The ISPs will now need to pay an amount of Rs 5.1 lakh for a one Mbps line in place of Rs 8.5 lakh, at present. The official added that in the lower bandwidth section, there is no change for the 64 Kbps and 128 Kbps categories and the tariffs for 256 Kbps leased line has been reduced by the company from Rs 2.7 lakh per annum to Rs 2 lakh.

When asked about the other plans of BSNL, the official replied that the company is also offering a 20 per cent discount for bandwidths less than 2 Mpbs and a 40 per cent for leased lines more than 2 Mbps at present. He said that the rate cuts have been initiated primarily in order to attract the educational institutions. The sources from the industry have informed that BSNL is currently facing a tough competition from the private operators in the domestic leased line market and that might be the main cause behind these new rate cuts.
