The British Biologicals, a Bangalore-based pharmaceuticals company has recently launched a nutritional supplement named the Colred Benecol that helps in reducing cholesterol. The company officials have informed that they have partnered with the Raisio Nutrition of Finland for manufacturing and marketing the drug.
The Executive Director of British Biologicals, V Sridhar has announced the launching of the drug and said, "The agreement with Raisio is a two-way deal wherein Raisio will sell our products in the Nordic countries and in turn we get to manufacture and sell their cholesterol-reducing drugs in the Indian market. Of these, Colred Benecol is the first product".
According to the sources from the industry, the Colred Benecol has already been tested in a number of 40 global clinical trials where Bangaluru is also included and the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) and Foshu of Japan have also given clearance certificate to it. Apart from that, the US National Cholesterol Education Program, the European Union Scientific Committee on Foods and the International Atherosclerosis Society has also recommended the product. The sources added that the British Biologicals usually operates in India through its protein supplements like the B-protin, D-protin, Pulmoplus, Meno-Pro and Medislim.
