The leading company in the express cargo delivery segment in India and also a pioneer in the distribution and supply chain solutions in India, Gati has recently announced that it has signed a strategic alliance deal with the Amsterdam-based General Logistics Systems (GLS). The GLS is one of the three largest parcel service providers in Europe and the sources said that Gati will act as the strategic partner of GLS in India. On the other hand, GLS will also play the same role for Gati in the European market, so that Gati can have an easier access to its customers in Europe.
The Gati is presently covering a number of 594 out of 604 districts in India, and the GLS has recently reported a revenue of 1.6 billion euros for the FY2007. The sources added that the GLS has so far handled around 311 million parcels for a number of 222,000 customers in 36 European states. The sources also said that the company has done so through a number of 17,800 vehicles and 32 trans-shipments points, 655 depots and 12,000 employees.
