Wind River Systems has announced the launch of its In-vehicle Device for the automotive industry. The device ensures convergence of various technologies around the car. It unites services such as navigation/GPS, consumer device integration (such as PDAs, laptops, ipods, etc), emergency call, rear seat entertainment and driver information (such as brake-fluid, coolant, etc), providing an overall infortainment system for the car. The system works on a simple socket, which the car manufacturer has to provide. The product can easily sit on this socket and enable the car to smoothly ensure interoperability between technologies inside the car and outside the car. This device will enable a standards-based communication infrastructure that supports vehicle to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle safety. Vehicle mobility and enable consumer and commercial services. Wind River Workbench supports both RTOS and Linux.
