The major company in the Indian aviation industry, GoAir has recently announced that it is thinking of making a tie-up with the Indian Railways for offering a better connectivity to its passengers. According to the companys plans, their passengers would soon be able to book a railway ticket by using their official website and they can do it when they get themselves booked for a journey through GoAir. The company officials informed that they are considering the tie-up with the Indian Railways, only for providing connectivity for a number of important places, that are close to the destinations in their network, but not within the network.
According to the CEO of GoAir, Mr. Edgardo Badiali, "We are definitely planning a multi-modal connectivity to certain places apart from destinations we operate. Though we are primarily looking at railways, we might also look at other means of transport such as roads". He said that at the time of booking his ticket on the GoAir website, a passenger will also be having an option for booking a railway ticket for a place of his/her interest, that is close to the destination. Mr. Badiali added that the company may also offer the option through a tie-up with a travel portal.
While elaborating their plans further, Mr. Badiali said, "There are several places which will attract a crowd but starting a flight to those places will not be viable due to infrastructure and other problems. So we would provide the connectivity without actually flying to those places immediately. This will give us the additional feeder traffic without actually bearing the costs of any extra flight. Also, we might charge a slight commission on the railway tickets". He also said that this combined offer of air and rail travel is going to give a benefit of 30-40 per cent for a customer in comparison to an all air travel. He further said that the company is also planning to launch its loyalty and frequent flyer programmes for its customers in this summer. The industry sources said that these loyalty programmes are going to be the first by any other low-cost airline.
