Cummins India (CIL)s industrial engine business unit has recently inaugurated a new integrated manufacturing facility at the companys Kothrud campus at Pune. The company officials have stated that the company has spent a huge investment of $20 million for establishing this new unit and it is going to specialize in assembling, testing and up-fit of high horsepower engines according to the requirements of the customers. The officials added that the unit will also be manufacturing both the mechanical and electronic KV series engines that range from 700 HP to 2,250 HP. These engine will be made for meeting the demands of power generation, marine, construction, mining and locomotive applications.
The Chairman and Managing Director of CIL, Mr. Anant Talaulicar has inaugurated the new unit of CIL and said that the products manufactured here will be used for providing service to the companys major customers worldwide. He said that the first batch of KV engines from the new unit have already been dispatched on Monday and added, "Our existing manufacturing plant at Kothrud has been meeting the global demand for K38 and K50 series engines for five years. With this investment, we have significantly expanded our ability to service global customer requirements".
The Vice-President of Cummins India Ltd - Engine and Industrial Business Unit, Mr. Vikram Jaisinghani was also expressing his views over the new plant and said, "This new facility built on the Kothrud campus was put up in a record time of 10 months from the day of its ground breaking in May 2007. It has been built to adhere to strict environment and safety norms, and will facilitate indigenisation of new products".
