The world famous cardiac surgeon, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty-promoted Asia Heart Foundation, has recently announced that it is planning to establish some more hospitals in all the 19 districts of the state of West Bengal soon. The officials of the foundation have stated that the new hospitals would be affordable to the masses, and the project is actually a part of Dr. Shettys efforts to add a number of 20,000 beds across the country within the next two-three years.
The promoter of the foundation, Dr. Shetty was speaking at the graduation and valediction ceremonies of the College of Nursing and School of Nursing, Asia Heart Foundation, and said, "We want to be present in every city. The model of the hospitals we are trying to set up will be in between the government and corporate hospitals". He added, "As we talk about equitable growth, our approach is to create additional jobs. The IT sector enjoys all the privileges from the government. Hardly five-ten people are required to have a Rs 1 crore turnover in an IT company. For a hospital to have the same turnover, about 200 people are required". Dr. Shetty also plead to the policy makers that it is time for revising the curriculum of the state-run nursing colleges in keeping with the requirements of nursing jobs in the US and UK.
