One of the leading construction companies in India, the Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has recently announced that it is planning for increasing the manufacturing capacity of its super-critical boilers and super-critical turbine generators to 4,000 Mw per annum, very soon. The officials of the company have stated that the Chairman And Managing Director, L&T, Mr. A M Naik and the Representative Director, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mr. Ichiro Fukue were present on the occasion for laying the foundation stone of the upgraded facility, at Hazira on Wednesday.
The sources from the industry have informed that the L&T is the only private sector company in India that is entering the space of super-critical boilers and turbine generators. The sources added that the company will be manufacturing and marketing these critical components through two separate joint ventures that it formed with the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan. The sources also said that the company will also be holding a 51% stake in both the JVs and the MHI will hold the remaining 49%. The JVs are going to have a huge investment of Rs 1,500 crore from the two companies.
