Nalco is to invest around Rs 20,000 crore to set up two new Greenfield projects, an alumina refinery in Andhra Pradesh and an integrated aluminium complex in Orissa. It plans to invest over Rs 6,000 crore for its proposed bauxite mining and new alumina refinery.
It also plans to invest Rs 30,000 crore over the next five years for setting up a smelter and a power plant in Indonesia to expand its overseas business. The company will initially invest Rs 15,000
crore for a 2.5 lakh tonne smelter and a 750 MW plant, the work for which would begin by the middle of 2009. Thereafter, we will double the capacity, said Nalco.
Nalco present capacity is around 3,45,000 tonnes. This will go up to 4,60,000 tonnes with the brownfield expansion for which it is spending Rs 5,000 crore. With these brownfield plants going into production, another 5,00,000 tonnes will be added, taking the total capacity to over 9,00,000 tonnes, added Nalco.
