Sail is planning to enter into equipment manufacturing to cash on the boom in domestic steel sector. The company plans to convert its engineering shops as separate profit centres to manufacture medium and small equipment for commercial sale. It is finalizing a joint venture arrangement with an existing equipment manufacturer to scale up its manufacturing activities. Its workshops have already statutory licences for manufacturing specialized equipment such as high pressure vessels, medium size cranes, electro-magnets. These workshops are already undergoing expansion as the company is set to increase its steel manufacturing capacity from 15 million tonnes to 26 million tonnes. These workshops will function as separate entities.
