KE-Burgmann Flexibles India, based in Chennai, will be investing close to Euro one million for its expansion that will be completed by the end of 2008. The compaQyflolds a market share of 10 to 15% in fabric, metal and rubber expansion joints, which caters to the use in chemical and petrochemical plants, cement plants, and pulp and power plants, according to a top official. The company has another plant in Raipur for domestic requirements. However, the company exports even to Gulf, but it prefers to cater to domestic market for the time being. The company started design and manufacturing of fabric compensators/non-metallic expansion joints in March 2001 in Chennai, which also is the head office of the company in India. It was the first company to introduce PTFE Fibre glass laminates for compensators in flue gas ducting systems, said Peter L Nielsen, CEO, KE-Burgmann.
KE-Burgmann is in talk with Reliance Power plant at Hisar to bag a Euro 300-million contract. It had also bagged a major contract from BHEL, from its three regions, for Euro 60 million.
The company will close the current financial year with a turnover of Rs 165 million and expects Rs 250 million by 2010.
Peter said KE-Burgmann was still the number one as manufacturer of fabric expansion joints, retained fifth position as manufacturer in metal expansion joints and number seventh as producer in rubber expansion joints. The company holds 70 per cent global market share in the above products. China and India were emerging markets of their products, and therefore he felt that there was business avenue in India, he added.
D Lahiri, MD, KE-Burgmann India, said even in eastern India the company bagged major contracts from Tisco and Farak-ka- L&T. Recently, Reliance Industries had approved the use of Burgmann products in their IPCLs Nagatone plant and placed repeated orders. The companys products have gained better value in NTPC plants at Talcher, Ramagunda, Rihand, Sipat and Kahalgaon region.
The Raipur plant would be catering to the industrial belt in and around Raipur, eastern and central India with the production of Flexogne, Combine-X, Hi-Flex and Themoflex type compensators.
