Bharti Airtel has launched its PCO in a local auto rickshaw at Boisar in the Vasai zone of the M&G (Maharashtra and Goa) circle. This is for the first time that a telecom operator has tied up with the ubiquitous auto rickshaw to ensure seamless mobility and connectivity.
The PCO was set up in a local auto rickshaw at an inaugural ceremony at Boisar - Vasai zone in the presence of the ZBM (Zonal Business Manager) - Mr. K.K.Ranga and the President of Shramik Sena - Mr. Sanjay Patil. Being a stepping-stone for the entire exercise of establishing PCOs in auto rickshaws, as a symbolic gesture, the first PCO was given free of cost to the auto rickshaw driver.
This initiative taken up by Bharti Airtel besides fulfilling the social endeavor of the company of ensuring seamless connectivity in the hinterlands also enables that accident victims/accidents at nearby highways are instantly reported and given medical support. The convenience of communicating when on the move coupled with this ability to save lives makes the auto rickshaw PCO a social offering to reckon with, especially in the hinterlands.
All the auto rickshaw driver, in his bid to ensure convenience to his customers, has to do is pay for the PCO coin box which comes at a nominal cost of Rs. 1000 and recharge it with a Rs. 501 prepaid card. This prepaid card enables the rickshaw driver to collect Rs. 750 in his PCOs coin box thus giving him a gain of around 50% on the initial recharge itself.
Judging the cost effectiveness and value for money of the auto rickshaw PCO, Airtel has already received a request of another 4 auto rickshaws at Boisar and can clearly see this trend catching on.
