The Vigneshwar Estate Tea Factory has recently created a double-record at the Sale No: 13 of the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA), as each of the companys two different leaf grades specialty teas - BOPS and BPSM, has fetched Rs 92 a kg. The company officials have informed that both the invoices were auctioned by the Paramount Tea Marketing (SI) P Ltd, and then bought by the Sunil Tea Co. They said that this was the highest price fetched by any CTC grade - leaf or dust, in this week.
One of the top officials of the company has stated that the price was also the highest price fetched by the factory for its leaf grades so far in this year at the Coonoor auctions. The official said that among the other CTC teas from bought-leaf factories, the Homedale Estate got a price of Rs 88, the Darmona Estate and Hittakkal Estate got Rs 87, the Green View Estate got Rs 86, the Shanthi Supreme got Rs 84, the Deepika Supreme got Rs 83 and the price of the Selva Ganapathy was at Rs 80. The official added that among the orthodox teas from the corporate sector, the price of Chamraj and Colacombie was Rs 115 a kg, the Prammas got Rs 111, the Havukal and Kairbetta got Rs 110, the Kodanaad and Curzon got Rs 105, the Glendale and Coonoor Tea Estate got Rs 103, the Woodlands and Kil Kotagiri of Pascoe got Rs 102 and the Nonsuch fetched Rs 100.
According to the sources from the auction, the export purchases were more pronounced than the others. Pakistan has bought some select lines of well-made smaller grades and fannings through the payment of up to Rs 55 a kg. The countries like CIS and Poland selected the bolder grades for up to Rs 47 and Egypt also bought some select grades for up to Rs 55. Some purchases for the US and West Asian markets were also present there, at high prices. An auctioneer commented on the matter, "While orthodox broken leaf sold dearer by Rs 2 a kg, brighter liquoring CTC dust lost to the same extent. Some orthodox dusts were withdrawn for want of bids. Primary orthodox whole leaf and high priced CTC leaf eased Rs 3".
