The leading engineering and construction company operating in India, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has recently informed that it has received a big order worth Rs 576-crore from the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. The companys officials have stated that the order has been awarded for constructing a 2-lakh-tonne per annum lube oil base stock plant, that will consist of a raffinate hydrotreating unit. The officials added that there will also be a mobil selective dewaxing unit and a hydro finishing unit in the plant.
Informing that the plant is being constructed for enabling the HPCL to produce high quality group II & III lube oils, that are higher some value-added petroleum products, an industry source said that the HPCL is operating one of its largest refineries in Mahul, in the city of Mumbai. The source added that the company is intending to set up the plant as a part of its quality up-gradation project.
While talking about the companys getting the order, one of the top officials from L&T has stated that the HPCL has awarded the order on lump sum turnkey basis and the Jacobs Engineering India Pvt. Ltd. has been retained by the HPCL for providing project management consultancy. The official added that the process licensor of the project is the ExxonMobil Research and Engineering (US). The official also said that the company needs to operate the activities like residual process design, detailed engineering, procurement, supply, transportation, storage, fabrication and commissioning, under the terms and conditions of the order. The official further informed that the refinery projects business unit of the E&C division of L&T, have secured the order on behalf of the company.
