Aviation Companies Raised Air Fares for High Fuel Price
The Indian airlines companies have announced a hike in the fuel surcharge on Tuesday, just after the PSUs in India have decided to raise the price of the aviation turbine fuel by 12-14%. The industry sources have informed that the hike was announced due to the continuation of the uprising of the crude oil price in the international market, that is standing at over $100 a barrel at the moment. With this announcement from the Indian aviation companies, the Indian passengers will now need to pay a bit more for traveling anywhere inside India.

According to one of the experts from the Indian aviation industry, the passengers will have to pay an additional surcharge of Rs 150 on the flights up to 750km (roughly about an hours duration), from now. They will have to pay an additional Rs 350 on longer flights as well. The expert added that the passengers were paying a uniform surcharge of Rs 1,650 till now. While commenting on the matter, the CEO of Jet Airways, Mr. Wolfgang Prock-Schaeur said, "For us, the hike will be effective from next Monday".

The industry sources have informed that the airlines have resorted to differential fuel surcharge for the first time in this occasion and they have done so only for stopping the passengers from hopping on to trains and buses for short journeys. The sources said that the fixed cost on each ticket is going to be in the range of Rs 2,175-2,375, combining with the new fuel surcharge, from now. The sources added that this cost is inclusive of the components like the passenger service fee of Rs 225 and also the congestion surcharge of Rs 150.
