Railway Awarded Mega Bulk Subscription Deal to Airtel
The Indian Railway has recently awarded a huge contract to the giant mobile service provider for subscribing its one lakh employees. The industry sources have informed that this is one of the biggest deals in the mobile bulk subscriptions segment so far and the deal is for closed user group (CUG) services. The services enable the subscribers for making calls and send text messages to the other subscribers in the group at much lower tariffs. The sources added that Airtel is offering a CUG plan that is going to allow the Railway employees to communicate with each other for free, under the deal.

Informing that the Railway employees, however, will need to pay a premium if they want to call other mobile users outside this closed user group, an official of Airtel said that there will be a 10 per cent discount for all users on their total bills, according to the deal. The official added that the subscribers will not have to pay any monthly rentals, as well and the company would revise the tariffs if Railway takes over 1.3 lakh subscriptions. The official also said that the company would provide subscriptions to the Railway employees under three different plans like national, zonal (North South, East, West) or circle (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai) CUG schemes.

While talking about the deal and other facilities under this CUG scheme, the sources from the Indian Railway have stated that the Railway officials who are already subscribed under the national plan, would be able to communicate with all other CUG subscribers for free. The sources said that the officials, subscribed under four zonal plans, would be allowed to make free calls within their respective zones for free, however, they will have to pay, when they call across zones. However, the call charges for this would be very minimal. While commenting on the issue, one of the spokespersons from Airtel said, "We are working with Indian Railways to serve their telecommunication needs on a continuous basis".
